Sungold Hydrogen and Impact Hydrogen have signed an agreement to cooperate and collaborate on the utilisation and production of the HyCooker in South Africa.
The HyCooker is an innovative cooking appliance powered by green hydrogen, which is a sustainable fuel produced via the electrolysis of water. Utilising green hydrogen as a cooking fuel ensures zero carbon dioxide emissions.
Impact Hydrogen has already developed a HyCooker prototype. The two companies are committed to assessing the practical application of this technology in meeting the specific requirements of the South African populace, while also contributing to the attainment of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The HyCooker addresses 10 out of the 17 SDGs by offering a sustainable alternative to conventional cooking methods, which are often harmful to both human health and the environment.
South Africa holds the capability to manufacture green hydrogen on an industrial scale. The local production and use of green hydrogen for cooking align with the principles of a just transition, ensuring inclusive progress where the benefits of hydrogen production are shared by all.
In the coming months, Sungold Hydrogen and Impact Hydrogen will investigate the feasibility of local production of the HyCooker to enhance sustainability. This exploration will encompass market research, design, manufacturing, testing, and certification processes.
